Stress Reduction Classes

Interested in joining a free weekly mindfulness and gentle yoga stress reduction course, while earning up to $340 for participating in Yale research studies?

Stress increases the risk of lapsing into bad habits such as smoking, drinking too much or eating unhealthy foods, all of which increases the risk of chronic conditions and diseases, such as hypertension, heart disease, obesity and metabolic syndrome, Type II diabetes, and some types of cancers.

Breaking the link between stress and bad habits will keep you healthy and decrease the risk of developing chronic diseases.

The focus of this course is on developing healthy lifestyle habits and decreasing stress through mindfulness and gentle yoga.

"Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally" (Jon Kabat-Zinn- Full Catastrophe Living)

Mindfulness is known to decrease stress and could help you gain back control over your thoughts and behaviors.

In this course, we practice bringing awareness to our everyday activities so that we can actually change the nature of the experience.  By being fully aware of our thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the body, we can have more choices and freedom in our lives.

We can’t control what pops up into our mind (such as a worry or a craving for sweets or a cigarette) but we can control the next step instead of letting the mind and body run off with old habits.  If you are interested in losing weight or changing your smoking or drinking habits, you may find this to be especially useful in changing these habits
